"The ocean is my cathedral." - Islay Aitchison.

The series is an exploration of contemporary religious-less self-baptism. Some photographed indoors and some photographed in nature, these photographs present the ritualistic and intrinsic quest for self-baptism in the contemporary age. The series can be seen as a portrait of the human condition, our primal search for meaning and self-discovery. Although these women do not identify with a religion, they feel a sense of renewal and reconciliation in certain places. I have photographed them carrying out their religious-less self-baptism with their eyes closed, in their private moment. Contrary to popular and historic representation of women in art, they have voices – a quote alongside their image concretes their intelligence and sense of spirituality and the honesty of the image. Also, they are named; they are real women with real thoughts on the world and their minds. They are not represented as fragile and small in their surroundings; rather, they appear empowered and in the process of renewal. Each photograph shows immersion, and through immersion these women find power and purpose.

Within the last couple days:

• Robin Willians died

• an innocent black teenager was shot to death

• a police officer at west lake mall maced a black man that just happened to walk by, then arrested him and refused him water

• policemen have been using brute force against peaceful protesters

• Ebola has broken out

• 94 people were killed in 3 days in the Ukraine

• people have begun to plan a real life purge

Someone please tell me. What, in THE HELL is going on

Everytime I see this I cry. I mean look at him. At first it looks like he is laughing and then the smile turns into tears.

why was he crying?

Because everyone was chanting his name, he was overwhelmed with the fact that all these kids came to see him and his band and that his music has a huge impact on them. They were happy tears.

This just made me cry. Austin tries so hard to please everyone.He’s my role model and probably the strongest person you’ll ever meet in your life. I have so much respect for him.

everytime i see this. i start to cry. hes so lovely and so strong. i wish i was as strong as he is. biggest fucking inspiration i have ever seen. i love him so much.

this makes me so happy, he deserves every single thing he has. an amazing band that makes amazing music and all the fame and happinessof mice and men are my role models and the biggest inspiration, i am so fucking proud of them

#remember how this movie took female stereotypes and crushed them into a million pieces

casual reminder that Elle Woods scored a 179 on the LSAT, which is one point shy of a perfect score.

Casual reminder that Whatshisface here had family connections and was a legacy and shit, whereas Elle Woods came out of nowhere.

casual reminder that Elle Woods actually had an amazing background in real life issues that people dismissed as unimportant but managed to not only learn the law, but learned how to apply the law.

Casual reminder that Elle Woods used her lawyer skills to save a woman from an abusive relationship and also save another woman from trumped up murder charges and basically what I’m saying is you go, girl, go get ‘em Elle Woods, thank you for this movie.

what’s fantastic about this movie is that it’s not that fucked up brand of feminism where the girls who arent like other girls and sip tea and read hemingway look down on the blonde party sluts. the message of the movie is like, you can be blonde and attractive AND enjoy stuff like shopping and partying and you can still be smart and kick ass!!!

I AM DECLARING THIS SUMMER THE SUMMER OF SELF-CONFIDENCE AND Y’ALL SHOULD TOO.

You like those shorts where your butt peeks out? Wear them.
You like that bikini? Wear it.
That girl cute? Tell her.
That boy bein’ lame? Dump him.

I’M NOT LETTING ANYONE FUCK THIS UP FOR ME OKAY I’M WEARING HIGH-WAISTED SHORTS AND CROP TOPS AND FLIRTING WITH EVERYONE OKAY

I’m having a really good day.

My spirit is broken;

My days are extinct;

       The graveyard is ready for me.

Surely there are mockers about me,

   and my eye dwells on their provocation.

Lay down a pledge for me with you;

who is there who will put up security

           for     me?

Since you have closed their

    hearts to understanding,

  therefore you will not let them triumph.

He who informs against his friends to

          get a share of their property-

the eyes of his children will fail.
